The paper studies piecewise monotone continuous maps \(f\) on any dendrite \(X\) whose set of branch points is closed, with each branch point of finite order. A dendrite is a compact, connected, locally connected metric space with no subsets homeomorphic to a circle. Given any two points of a dendrite \(X\), there is a unique arc in \(X\) with the given points as its endpoints. Monotonicity of a map between two dendrites, \(g:X\rightarrow Y\), implies that the image of the arc connecting \(p\) and \(q\) is the arc connecting \(g(p)\) and \(g(q)\). It is shown that if \(f\) is as above, then the set of periodic points of \(f\) is closed if and only if it is equal to the center of the map (the maximal invariant set that is its own nonwandering set). In the presence of a technical condition, the set of periodic points being closed is also equivalent to the condition that each omega-limit set is a single periodic orbit. When the set of periodic points is closed, the topological entropy of \(f\) is 0.
