In [Math. Ann. 294, 59--80 (1992; Zbl 0761.55006)], \textit{J. M. Møller} proved that the genus of the classifying space of a compact connected non-abelian Lie group \(G\) is uncountably large. \textit{D. Notbohm} showed that the \(K\)-theory ring together with the \(\lambda\)-operations classify this genus of \(BG\) [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 89, 273--294 (1993; Zbl 0794.55011)]. In the paper under review, the author revisits the first known example of this situation, the case of \(BS^3\) studied by D. L. Rector. In previous work, he has established that the spaces in the genus of \(BS^3\) all have isomorphic \(K\)-theory rings. Here he proves that Rector invariants show up in the Adams operations in \(K\)-theory and that the \(\lambda\)-rings are pairwise non-isomorphic.
