A mapping \(f\) in the Sobolev class \(W^{1,1}_{\text{ loc}}(\Omega)\) from a domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n\) into \(\mathbb{R}^n\) is said to have finite distortion provided that the Jacobian determinant \(J(x,f)\) of \(f\) is locally integrable and \(f\) satisfies \(| Df(x)| ^n \leq K(x)J(x,f)\) a.e. where \(K(x)\) is finite a.e. If \(K(x)\) is exponentially integrable, then the authors give essentially the best possible bound for the modulus of continuity of \(f\). This is of logarithmic type and the problem is the best exponent of the logarithm. Earlier results have been obtained by David, Iwaniec, Koskela, Martin and Onninen, see [\textit{T. Iwaniec} and \textit{G. Martin}, Geometric function theory and non-linear analysis (2001; Zbl 1045.30011)].
