    The authors study the existence and nonexistence of global positive solutions to the following nonlinear parabolic equation with nonlinear boundary conditions \[ \begin{aligned} & (u^k)_t = \Delta_mu,\quad x \in\Omega, \quad t > 0,\\ & \nabla_m u\cdot\nu = u^{\alpha},\quad x\in \partial\Omega, \quad t > 0,\\ & u(x,0) = u_0(x),\quad x\in\bar\Omega, \end{aligned} \] where \[ \Delta_m u = \text{div }(| \nabla u| ^{m-1}\nabla u)= \sum_{i=1}^N(| \nabla u| ^{m-1}u_{x_i})_{x_i}, \nabla_mu= (| \nabla u| ^{m-1}u_{x_1},\dots, | \nabla u| ^{m-1}u_{x_N}). \] Here \(\Omega\subset \mathbb R^N\), \(N \geq 1\) is a bounded domain with smooth boundary \(\partial\Omega\), \(\nu\) is the outward normal vector to the boundary \(\partial\Omega\), \(m\), \(k > 0\), \(\alpha \geq 0\), and \(u_0(x)\) is a positive \(C^1\) function which satisfies the compatible conditions. The main result reads as follows: If \(k\leq m\), then all positive solutions exist globally in time if and only if \(\alpha \leq k\). If \(k > m\), then all positive solutions exist globally if and only if \(\alpha \leq m(k+1)/(m+1)\).
