    Let \(S\) be a finite type, regular, integral affine \(Z\)-scheme or a localization of such and \(f: V \to S\) a smooth, projective morphism with geometrically connected \(n\)-dimensional fibers. For all integers \(r \geq 0\) there is a specialization map \(\sigma ^r\) between the \(r\)-th Chow group of the geometric general fiber of \(f\) and the \(r\)-th Chow group of the geometric special fiber of \(f\). It is known that \(\sigma ^1\) is injective. Here the author proves that \(\sigma ^2\) and \(\sigma ^n\) are injective, but that \(\sigma ^r\) may be non-injective for \(2 < r < n\).
