Zur Mahlerschen Vermutung im Komplexen (Q772258): Difference between revisions

In connection with Mahler's classification of transcendental numbers (see \textit{Th. Schneider}, Einführung in die transzendenten Zahlen. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag (1957; Zbl 0077.04703)]), the author proves that each of the inequalities \[ \vartheta_2(\xi)=\tfrac 14, \quad \vartheta_3(\xi)=\tfrac 13, \quad \tfrac 38\leq \vartheta_4(\xi)\leq \tfrac 12, \quad \tfrac 25\leq \vartheta_5(\xi)\leq \tfrac 35 \] holds for almost all complex numbers. The last three results are new, but the author states that the result for \(\vartheta_3\) has also been found by E. Wirsing.
