The main result of this paper is the following Theorem 1.1. Let \(G\) be a compact Lie group and \(H\) a closed normal subgroup such that \(G/H\) is connected. Then every complex representation of \(H\) is extendible to \(G\) if and only if \(H\) is a direct summand of \([G, G]H\).
