In this paper it is shown that if \(p =4k+1\) is a prime such that \(\varphi(p-1)/(p - 1) >1/4\), then there is at least one pair of consecutive primitive roots modulo \(p\). Generalizations of this proposition, related results and some computational work are also discussed. (The computational work may be checked with the table of \textit{Herbert Hauptman}, the author and \textit{Janet Fisher} [Table of all primitive roots for primes less than 5000 (Washington 1971)].) These results generalize and improve those of the author's [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 19, 1169---1170 (1968; Zbl 0167.04001)].
