Let \(R\) be a ring with 1 and zero singular right ideal; let \(Q\) be the maximal right quotient ring of \(R\). The main result in this paper is the following: Every finitely generated right \(R\)-module of zero singular submodule can be embedded in a free right \(R\)-module if and only if \(Q_R\) is flat and \((Q\otimes_R Q)_R\) has zero singular submodule. This theorem is a definite improvement of the reviewer's and \textit{F. L. Sandomierski}'s attempt for an answer to the same question [Can. J. Math. 23, 345--354 (1971; Zbl 0199.35701)].
