The author proves a number of theorems regarding the structure hereditarily strong \(\Sigma\)-spaces (hereafter, h\(s\Sigma\)-spaces). The main result is a decomposition theorem for h\(s\Sigma\)-spaces in which compact subspaces have cardinality \(\leq 2^{\omega}\) into the disjoint union of two \(\sigma\)-spaces one of which is an \(F_{\sigma}\)-subset. Using this, he obtains several nice results answering questions of van Wouwe, Bennett and Lutzer, and others. For example: (1) A perfect space X is a \(\sigma\)-space iff it is an h\(s\Sigma\)-space. (2) A GO-space X is metrizable iff it is an h\(s\Sigma\)-space. (Actually, he has slightly more; hereditarily \(\Sigma\) is enough.) (3) A first countable, compact X is metrizable iff it is an h\(s\Sigma\)-space. Other results and several interesting examples are given.
