The main result (Theorem 1) is: Let \(f\) and \(g\) be complex valued multiplicative functions. Assume \[ \sum^\infty_{n=1} \vert g(n+1)- f(n)\vert n^{-1}<\infty. \] Then either \[ \sum_n | f(n)| n^{-1},\quad \sum_n | g(n)| n^{-1}<\infty \] or \[ f(n)=g(n)=n^{\sigma +i\tau}\quad (0\le \sigma<1). \] The proof is elementary but involved. A result of the author [J. Number Theory 2, 1--6 (1970; Zbl 0188.34201)] on a characterization of \(\log n\) as an additive function is used. [For part I, see the preceding review Zbl 0532.10003.]
