Let \(E\) be a bundle over the separable compact space \(X\) with fibre a given unital \(C^*\)-algebra B and structure group \(\text{Inn }B\) (the group of inner automorphisms of \(B\)) and let \(A=\Gamma(E)\) be the \(C^*\)-algebra of sections of \(E\). This paper continues the study of the automorphisms of \(A\) by first showing that \(Ad:U(B)\to \text{Inn }B\) is a fibre bundle if and only if the space \(D\) of inner derivations of \(B\) is norm closed which, of course, occurs whenever \(B\) is the quotient of an \(AW^*\)-algebra. Under this (weaker) hypothesis on \(B\), the sequence [cf. the author and \textit{I. Raeburn}, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 29, 799-822 (1980; Zbl 0475.46047)] \[ 0\to \text{Inn }A\to \text{PInn }A\to^{\eta}H^ 2(X,G), \] where \(\text{PInn }A\) denotes the group of pointwise inner automorphisms of \(A\) and \(G=H^ 0(Z(B)\wedge,{\mathbb{Z}})\) holds. The ontoness of \(\eta\) is now concluded in the case that \(E\) is trivial and \(B\) is the quotient of a purely infinite \(AW^*\)-algebra. [For related results see also \textit{I. Raeburn}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 263, 183-205 (1981; Zbl 0458.46042), as well as the author, \textit{I. Raeburn} and \textit{J. L. Taylor}, Bull. London Math. Soc. 14, 33-38 (1982; Zbl 0445.46046) where the case of \(B\) being a II\(_ 1\) factor is discussed].
