The author presents a systematic splitting of the second rank tensor in order to study the stress discontinuities at the interface in anisotropic media. Some results of other authors [e.g. \textit{N. Laws}, J. Elasticity 5, 227-235 (1975; Zbl 0323.73015)] are discussed from a new stand-point which admit interesting and elegant generalizations. The results presented offer new avenues of exploration. Some illustrative examples are also given.
