A porous medium with fluid-filled pores is considered and it is assumed that the medium is homogeneous. A new kinematical model is proposed, taking into account that in the real movement the two components of the medium are coupled to one another. Thus, the effect of coupling the peculiar motions is exhibited by the mass coupling coefficients occuring in the equations of motion. These equations are analogous to those of \textit{M. A. Biot} [Theory of propagation of elastic waves in a fluid saturated porous solid. I. Low-frequency range, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 28, 168-178 (1956)] and \textit{W. Derski} [Bull. Acad. Pol. Sci., Ser. Sci. Tech. 26, 11-16 (1978; Zbl 0373.73009)] and allows interpretations of the coefficients. Finally, the boundary conditions are derived from appropriate jump conditions for each physical component.
