In recent years quite a few papers have appeared on optimality aspects of block designs. This paper is a contribution on D-optimality of group divisible designs (which form an important class of partially balanced incomplete block designs with two associate classes). It specifically establishes that connected group divisible designs with parameters \(v=mn\), \(m=v/2\), \(n=2\) and \(\lambda_ 2=\lambda_ 1\pm 1\) are D-optimal within their corresponding classes.
