The title problem has been studied using numerical and approximate analytic methods in a supersonic gas stream. For an impermeable surface or for small values of the suction parameter and for arbitrary suction, the authors use a successive approximation technique to get an analytic solution while for large values of the suction parameter asymptotic solutions have been obtained for the frictional drag and the heat flux. On the other hand for a wide range of variations of the suction parameter a numerical solution has been obtained. Finally, the accuracy and the region of applicability of the analytic solution is estimated by comparison with the numerical solutions.
