Zentralisatoren in lokal endlichen Gruppen vom Chevalley-Typ (Q796647): Difference between revisions

The centralizers of elements in an infinite simple locally finite group H of Chevalley-type (twisted or non-twisted) are investigated. For instance it is shown that the centralizer \(C_ H(\alpha)\) is not a Chernikov group for every automorphism \(\alpha\) of H of prime order (Satz A). Further, the relation of the centralizers of elements of order q and the structure of the Sylow-q-subgroups of H is described more precisely (Satz B). Finally, it is shown that the centralizer of every element of H is not a Chernikov group (Satz C). Using the classification of finite simple groups, it follows that the centralizer of every element of an infinite periodic linear simple group is always infinite. This answers Question 1.8 of the book of \textit{O. H. Kegel} and \textit{B. A. F. Wehrfritz} [Locally finite groups (1973; Zbl 0259.20001)].
