By analogy with Cross varieties, a formation generated by some finite group is called a Cross formation. The author gives conditions under which the product of two formations, one of which is local, is a local Cross formation. This allows to obtain analogs for \textit{A. L. Shmel'kin'}s results [Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Mat. 29, 149-170 (1965; Zbl 0135.047)] and to give a new proof of this result.
