The author studies the representation theory of subspace and factorspace categories of vector space categories on the one hand and of the category of socle projective modules S(R) of a right peak ring R (i.e. R is semiperfect with essential right projective socle of the form \(S^{(t)}\) for a simple projective R-module S, and S(R) is the category of finitely generated socle projective right R-modules). Moreover, the close connection between the representation theories of the various above categories is examined. At a ''final remark'' B the author writes: ''It is an easy observation that most of the results of this paper also remain true for generalized vector space categories, if we replace right peak rings by semiperfect rings with essential and projective right socle''. This is true; however the reviewer does not understand, why the author used such a vague statement, instead of formulating the results in this more general situation. This in particular, since results such as Thm. 4.4 (e.a.) become false in the more general situation. It also should be noted that the socle projective modules of a ''generalized'' peak ring R are the torsionfree modules in a hereditary torsion theory and so their left almost split sequences are obtained from the almost split sequences in mod(R) by factoring out torsion (Ringel) (cf. 3.4). The reviewer also wants to point out that in case R is an artinian \(\bar k-\)algebra for a field \(\bar k,\) and R has a projective right socle then the category S(R) is representation equivalent to the category of lattices of a classical order, and many of the constructions in this paper (e.g. almost split sequences) arise from the corresponding constructions for orders [the reviewer, Can. Math. Bull. 23, 61-65 (1980; Zbl 0434.16023), Auslander-Reiten species for socle determined categories of hereditary algebras and for generalized Bäckström orders, Mitt. Math. Semin. Giessen 159, 98 p. (1983; Zbl 0513.16003)].
