The article presents some aspects of the theory of Toeplitz operators in n dimensions. The notion of Toeplitz operator is meant in the following sense. Let \({\tilde \Omega}\) be a finite-dimensional complex analytic manifold and let \(\Omega\) be an open, strictly pseudoconvex domain in \({\tilde \Omega}\) with compact closure and smooth boundary X (endowed with a smooth measure). Denote by \({\mathcal H}\) the Hardy space of all square summable functions defined on X and having a holomorphic extension on \(\Omega\). Moreover, denote by \(\Pi\) the orthogonal projection operator mapping \(L^ 2(X)\) onto \({\mathcal H}\). The author studies Toeplitz operators of the form \({\mathcal H}\ni f\mapsto \Pi Qf\), where the multiplier Q is a pseudodifferential operator. In particular, a simple composition formula holds for such operators and, consequently, they form a ring. A remarkable connection between the theory of these operators and the theory of pseudodifferential operators is shown. For example, it turns out that the ring of pseudodifferential operators on a compact real and analytic manifold M is, roughly speaking, isomorphic with the ring of Toeplitz operators on a Grauert tube about M. Moreover, a one-to-one correspondence between Toeplitz operators on the unit ball (with functions as multipliers) and Toeplitz operators on the unit sphere (with pseudodifferential multipliers of non-positive order) is found. Also a number of other facts and methods from this area are presented (in particular, the application of the Berezin theory to Weyl quantization).
