We discuss a general approach to the computation of the zeros of nonlinear polynomial equations with particular emphasis on the lambda matrix eigenproblem. The approach is based on the explicit representation of the (non-unique) slope operator. This operator is then used to generate including iterations for the zeros. The underlying idea is that of the splitting of a multivariate polynomial.
