\textit{V. I. Arnol'd} [Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 6, No.4, 3-25 (1972; Zbl 0278.57011)] classified critical points of real valued functions resulting in his so called ''simple normal forms''. In the present paper the author considers a Hamiltonian system with one degree of freedom and rediscovers for the Hamiltonian function H(p,q) Arnold's results using renormalization group techniques. This implies some predictions for the scaling behaviour at the onset of intermittency.
