\textit{G. M. Bergman} has constructed [Isr. J. Math. 18, 257-277 (1974; Zbl 0263.16010)] an example of a finite ring of order \(p^ 5\), p an arbitrary prime, which cannot be embedded into any matrix ring over a commutative ring. In this note the author proves that any ring of order \(p^ 2\), \(p^ 3\) or \(p^ 4\) is embeddable but for any \(n>5\) there exists a ring of order \(p^ n\) which is not embeddable into a matrix ring with commutative entries.
