    Das Schweißen von Metallplatten mittels Laserstrahltechnik kann mathematisch durch ein freies Randwertproblem beschrieben werden. Die Autoren betrachten den stationären Fall, der durch folgendes System partieller Differentialgleichungen charakterisiert wird: \[ (1)\quad \frac{1}{r}\{\frac{\partial T}{\partial r} \frac{\partial\psi}{\partial\theta}- \frac{\partial T}{\partial\theta} \frac{\partial\psi}{\partial r}\}= \nabla(\kappa(T)\nabla T), \] \[ (2)\quad \frac{\rho}{r}\{\frac{\partial \nabla^ 2\psi}{\partial r} \frac{\partial \psi} {\partial\theta}-\frac{\partial\nabla^ 2\psi}{\partial\theta} \frac{\partial\psi}{\partial r}\}= \mu\nabla^ 4\psi. \] Die Gleichungen (1), (2) sind in Polarkoordinaten \((r,\theta)\) geschrieben, T bezeichnet die Temperatur und \(\psi\) die Stromfunktion. Dabei gilt (1) sowohl im flüssigen wie im festen Gebiet mit entsprechenden \(\kappa(T)\), und (2) repräsentiert die zweidimensionale Navier-Stokes-Gleichung für die Strömungsgeschwindigkeit im flüssigen Metall. Es kommen noch Randbedingungen hinzu: (3) Auf dem festen Rand \(S(r,\theta)=0:\) \(\psi=0\), \(T=T_ V\) =Verdampfungstemperatur), \(\partial\psi/\partial r=r(\partial^ 2\psi/\partial r^ 2).\) (4) Auf dem freien Rand \(S(r,\theta)=0:\) \(\psi=Ur\sin\theta,\) \(\partial\psi /\partial r=U \sin \theta\) (U=Geschwindigkeit des Werkstückes) und \([k\nabla T]^{fest}_{\text{flüssig}}\cdot \nabla S+(L\rho/r)(\partial (S,\psi)/\partial (r,\theta))=0,\) \(T\to T_ 0\) für \(r\to \infty.\) Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der numerischen Lösung des Systems (1)-(4) auf der Grundlage der Linienmethode. Das dabei entstehende System gewöhnlicher Differentialgleichungen wird mit Hilfe der isothermen ''migration'' Technik umgeformt und numerisch gelöst. Testrechnungen führen zu befriedigenden Resultaten.
