The existence of an optimal solution in problems of determining the shape of an elastic line (Q1080284): Difference between revisions

The title problem is formulated and the solution is discussed for five sets of different boundary conditions for the ends of the rod. Two theorems proof the existence of a solution. The authors are not interested in any consequences of an optimal solution as the considered rod may be a part of a structure of any kind. Conclusions concerning the application of the optimal rods are not formulated. Therefore, the paper has a somewhat academic character.
