A global existence theorem on the solution of the classical Hodgkin- Huxley equations (assuming that the right-hand side is only locally Lipschitzian) is stated. Continuous dependence of solutions on initial data is proved. Moreover, the local stability of stationary solutions of the classical Hodgkin-Huxley equations in the absence of impulse and in the case of short nerve is verified.
