A subset A of a semigroup S is dense if whenever a pair of homomorphisms \(\alpha\),\(\beta\) : \(S\to T\) are such that \(\alpha | A=\beta | A\) then \(\alpha =\beta\). Dense subsets of inverse semigroups, completely [0- ] simple semigroups and three types of transformation semigroups are investigated. In particular characterizations of the dense subsemigroups of semilattices of groups, completely simple semigroups and 0-rectangular bands are given while the full transformation semigroup is shown to have no proper dense subsemigroup if and only if it is finite.
