Earlier Zelevinsky classified representations of GL(n) with an Iwahori- fixed vector. The author redoes this, using the theory of Hecke algebras and elementary methods. For certain groups G the Hecke algebra is the set of functions of finite support on G which are right and left invariant under the Iwahori subgroup of G. There is an equivalence between the category of finite-dimensional modules for the Hecke algebra and a category of certain representations of G so the latter can be studied by studying the Hecke algebra. The author is able to avoid Zelevinsky's use of the group \(GL_ n(F)\).
