Let N be an irreducible compact quotient of the n-dimensional polydisc \(\Delta^ n\), \(n\geq 2\). The following two theorems are proved. (1) Suppose \(f: M\to N\) is a harmonic map of a compact Kählerian manifold M whose real rank is 2n at some point of M, and let \(F: M\to \Delta^ n\) be its lifting to universal coverings. Then, in the coordinate expression \(F=(F_ 1,...,F_ n)\) of F, each \(F_ i\) is either holomorphic or conjugate-holomorphic. (2) If a compact Kählerian manifold M is homotopic to N, then there exists a diffeomorphism \(f: M\to N\) such that, under the same notation, each \(F_ i\) is either holomorphic or conjugate-holomorphic.
