Let G be a semisimple, simply connected Chevalley group over a field k, B a Borel subgroup of G. Let L be a positive line bundle on G/B. The construction of an explicit basis for \(H^ 0(G/B,L)\) (or more generally for \(H^ 0(X,L)\), X a Schubert variety in G/B) can be given for classical groups G by means of so called standard monomials. The corresponding theory of standard monomials for Schubert varieties in G/B, G being of type \(G_ 2\) is developed.
