    Let X be a 1-connected space of finite type and let p be a prime. Let \(R\pi_*(X; {\mathbb{Z}}/p)\) be the radius of convergence of the series \(\sum_{n}\dim_{{\mathbb{Z}}/p}(X; {\mathbb{Z}}/p)\otimes {\mathbb{Z}}/p)t^ n\) and \(RH_*(\Omega X; {\mathbb{Z}}/p)\) be the radius of convergence of the series \(\sum_{n}\dim_{{\mathbb{Z}}/p}(H_ n(\Omega X; {\mathbb{Z}}/p))t^ n\). The author proves that \(R\pi_*(X; {\mathbb{Z}}/p)\geq \min \{RH_*(\Omega X; {\mathbb{Z}}/p), C_ p\}\) where \(C_ p\) is a constant depending only on p with \(C_ p\geq 1/2\) for all p. He obtains the corollary that there is a constant d such that \(\dim_{{\mathbb{Z}}/p}(\pi_ nX\otimes {\mathbb{Z}}/p)\leq d^ n\) for all n. \textit{K. Iriye} [On the ranks of the homotopy groups of a space (to appear)] has shown that min\(\{\) 1, \(R\pi\) \({}_*(X, {\mathbb{Z}}/p)\}\leq RH_*(\Omega X; {\mathbb{Z}}/p)\). The author conjectures that they are equal.
