The author shows that the conjugating representation of the symmetric group \(S_ n\) contains each ordinary irreducible representation as an irreducible constituent or, equivalently, that the row sums of the character table of \(S_ n\) are strictly positive. There are signs of hasty preparation, various misprints left and unexplained notation.
