In this review, I describe aspects of nonlinear \(\sigma\)-models and their supersymmetric extensions. I speculate about applications for two- dimensional systems, and briefly describe an application in complex manifold theory (for another application, see ref. 1 and the article by \textit{P. Windey} and \textit{D. Friedan} [ibid. 15, 71-74 (1985; Zbl 0597.58032)].
