The author obtains estimates on the distribution of in-degrees of random graphs with fixed out-degrees by relating this distribution to that for random graphs whose edges are independent, via factorial moments. He applies this to graphs obtained when members of a group each name their d best friends [with special regard to the points with maximum in- degrees (rulers) and minimum in-degrees (slaves)].
