This paper presents a general introduction to the covariant formulation of phenomenological and statistical thermodynamics with applications to the relativistic form of the Landau two-fluid model of superfluids and its microscopic validation in terms of Bose-Einstein condensation in second-quantized boson fields. It is the written version of a general lecture at a symposium and as such it is a survey that offers an outline of the formal structure of covariant thermodynamics.
