The subgroup structure of Fischer's sporadic simple group \(F_ 2\), the so called ''Baby Monster'', is investigated. A mayor part of this paper is the 3-local analysis. Here a particular subgroup of type \(3_+^{1+8}:2_-^{1+6}\cdot U_ 4(2)\) plays a dominant role. A certain representation of this subgroup connected with finite quaternionic reflection groups (see \textit{A. M. Cohen} [J. Algebra 64, 293-324 (1980; Zbl 0433.20035)]) is used as an effective way to compute in this group. The discussion of p-local subgroups for \(p>3\) turns out to be easier. There are also two sections, where embeddings of ''large'' simple groups into \(F_ 2\) are discussed.
