The author studies p-torsion in ellipic curves defined over subfields of the cyclotomic field \({\mathbb{Q}}(\mu _ p)\). In particular, he proves that if the elliptic curve is a G-curve [see the author, Invent. Math. 83, 545-551 (1986; Zbl 0585.14023)] defined over the quadratic subfield K of \({\mathbb{Q}}(\mu _ p)\), and p is a prime \(\geq 17\), then no G-curve over K can possess a K-rational point of order p. When p is irregular and \(\equiv 3 (mod 4)\) the author removes the restriction that E is a G- curve. Thus, for the infinite family \(X_ 1(p)\) (p irregular, and \(\equiv 3 (mod 4))\) the author proves the non-existence of non-cuspidal K-rational points over fields K which vary in a uniform way with the curves.
