The problem of gravity wave generation in a two-dimensional long channel of finite width and infinite depth is studied in this paper. The gravity waves are generated by an oscillatory pressure patch, acting on the free surface. The method used for the solution of the mathematical problem is that of the Fourier's transform, initiated by the author in a previous paper [e.g.: the author and \textit{G. Dagan}, J. Fluid Mech. 159, 433-458 (1985; Zbl 0574.76019)]. The advantages of the used method and the comments of the obtained results, together with the comparisons between them and those obtained by other authors with other methods are largely presented in the paper.
