For diagonally dominant infinite matrices, the authors show that the inverse is compact, locate eigenvalues in terms of Gershgorin disks, show that the inverse can be approximated in a certain way by inverses of finite submatrices, and give a numerical method for eigenvalues of tridiagonal systems. This is applied to Mathieu's equation.
