The author considers the difference equation \(\Delta^ my_ n+f(n,y_ n)=0\), \(m\geq 1\), \(n\in {\mathbb{N}}\), n sufficiently large. Sufficient conditions are presented for the existence of a solution which is a specified way asymptotically behaves like a given polynomial function of degree \(<m\). The work is motivated by a paper of \textit{W. F. Trench} on differential equations [Rocky Mt. J. Math. 14, 441-450 (1984; Zbl 0542.34051)].
