The author gives an introduction to the simplest quantum field theories in one and two dimensions. He starts by introducing a set of rather general quantum field theories and he gives conditions for a local field to be of finite dimension. Then he studies examples: one-dimensional conformally invariant theories of standard type and simple chiral theories in two dimensions.
