The authors determine sufficient conditions for the sign determinacy of a sum of polylinear forms and use them to construct Lyapunov functions for (unperturbed) nonlinear systems whose trivial solutions are globally asymptotically stable. The resulting Lyapunov functions are used to study the global stability of the perturbed equations, whose right-hand sides are the sum of homogeneous polynomials. An application to the stability analysis of differential equations modelling a winged aircraft is given.
