The author considers the problem, how a single fuzzy relation R(x,y), describing the relationship between two and only two particular values of the causally connected linguistic variables X and Y, can be used to produce a value of Y when the original value of X is replaced by some new value. He presents criteria which limit the set of possible inferences and which do not depend on the general pattern of the causal relationship between X and Y.
