This is a most valuable review of the title problem. After an introductory overview turbulence models are discussed. Here the relative virtues of k, \(\epsilon\)-models or even simple mixing length models as compared to the more sophisticated, but more difficult to use higher order closure techniques are underlined. Zonal methods for geometrically complex flows are mentioned. A further section deals with discretization techniques, discussing a number of popular methods and their numerical stability in the context of simple model equations and the full Navier- Stokes equations. Next methods for solving the discretized version of the flow equations are dealt with. Desirable further progress is mentioned in an outlook. The paper is of exceptional clarity, treating the various topics in sufficient depth without getting lost in detail.
