    The author investigates so-called A-subspaces of continuous real-valued functions which play an important role in \(L_ 1\)-approximation. If \(X\subset {\mathbb{R}}\) is a compact set such that \(X=\overline{int X}\) and if G is an n-dimensional A-subspace of \(C(X)\), he proves that the following assertions are true: (i) there exists a basis \(\{g_ 1,...,g_ n\}\) of G such that \(span\{g_ 1,...,g_ i\}\) \((1\leq i\leq n-1)\) is an A- subspace; (ii) the restriction of G to \(\tilde X=\overline{int(I\cap X)},\) where I is a real bounded interval, is an A-subspace of \(C(\tilde X)\).
