Let K be a convex body in Euclidean n-space, and let \(A_{n-1}\) denote an (n-1)-dimensional surface dividing K in two (not necessarily convex) parts \(K_ 1\), \(K_ 2\). The author derives two inequalities which give an upper bound to the product of the n-volumes of \(K_ 1\) and \(K_ 2\) generalizing results which \textit{J. Bokowski} [Arch. Math. 34, 84-89 (1980; Zbl 0445.52011)] derived in the special case that \(A_{n-1}\) is the intersection of K with a hyperplane. The bounds are in terms of the diameter D of K, the (n-1)-dimensional volume of \(A_{n-1}\), and - in the second inequality - the n-volume of the difference body of K. The proof uses a conjecture of L. A. Santaló which turns out to be true in the cases needed, and formulas on integral geometry.
