The author shows that if a nonassociative algebra A satisfies A \(2=A\) and has an idempotent, then A and its duplicate have isomorphic automorphism groups and isomorphic derivation algebras. An example shows that the condition A \(2=A\) is necessary. Finally there is an application of this result to multiple allelic polyploidy algebras.
