Let M be a smooth manifold. We shall denote by N the associative algebra of smooth K-valued functions on M \((K={\mathbb{R}}\) or \({\mathbb{C}})\), and by \(a_ n\) the associative algebra of smooth gl(n,K)-valued functions on M (the operations are defined pointwise, and are induced from gl(n,K)). The authors prove that there is a canonical bijection of the set of equivalence classes of formal deformations of N onto the set of equivalence classes of formal deformations of \(a_ n\) (for any n). Let us remark that the algebra structures in both cases have local nature, and that the authors consider only those deformations which preserve this local nature. The result is closely related to the formal deformations of current Lie algebras.
