Denote by \(\sigma_ A:X_ A\to X_ A\) the topological Markov chain arising from a possibly infinite zero-one matrix A and let \(Aut(\sigma_ A)\) denote the group of uniform equivalences of \(\sigma_ A\). The author discusses the connection between \(Aut(\sigma_ A)\), the algebraic K- theory functor \(K_ 2\), and automorphisms of the Cuntz-Krieger type \(C^*\)-algebra associated with A and of its corresponding dimension group \(K_ 0(X_ A).\) In Section 1 the author considers the shift \(\sigma_ A:X_ A\to X_ A\) for a locally finite matrix A (A has only finitely many ones in each row and in each column). The dimension group \(K_ 0(X_ A)\) is discussed in Section 2. In Section 3 the homomorphism \[ \psi_ A:Aut(\sigma_ A)\to_{\phi}Aut(K_ 0(X_ A),s_ A)\to_{\det}Wh_ 2(F(z)) \] is constructed under the assumption that A is finite. In Section 4 the author gives a self-contained, elementary and functorial presentation of what is essentially the Cuntz-Krieger theory of \(C^*\)- algebras \(\bar {\mathcal F}_ A\) associated with the dynamical system \((X_ A,\sigma_ A).\) In Sections 5, 6 and 7 the cases of finite, row finite and localy finite matrix A respectively are considered.
