Pringsheim's 1899 theorem on the convergence of continued fractions may be reformulated, using a theorem of Pincherle, as a result on second order linear recurrence relations. Using the theory of diagonally dominant matrices, the present paper gives a generalization to linear recurrence relations of order p.
